Wow...what a whirlwind week! New student orientation was all week, which required Dave to put in a few extra hours. It was awesome to interact with the orientation counselors and meet all the incoming students. This is only the second year of a student-run orientation, so there are a few kinks to work out, but all-in-all it went very smooth. Here is a picture of me acting goofy with a few of the head orientation counselors. College students will be college students no matter where in the world! After a week and a half of work, I am extremely enthusiastic about working with these students.
I finally went and made my first big grocery-shopping trip. As a marketing major, this venture was rather entertaining. A couple of the funny highlights was a box of cereal (pictured on the right), which was described as "Ludicrously Tasty!" Interesting choice of adjective on Kellogg's part. Also, I found it quite strange that the italian salad dressing that I found was Kroger brand--keep in mind that I'm shopping at a very un-American grocery store. To think--I thought I escaped Kroger after leaving Ohio. The only item I couldn't find at the store that I really wanted was salsa--what a shame. I'm sure it's in this city somewhere!

If you think your choices at the grocery store were humorous, try this... When I was in Luxembourg I had the same challenge with the grocery story. Most of the items there were in French so I would try to interpret what I could. I was looking for body lotion - to moisturize my typically dry skin. Well, I was looking the through store and found something called "douche" - at least I think that's what it was. It was in the area where there seemed to be other lotions, oils, etc. I took it home and applied some the next morning after my shower, only to find that it was body soap, not lotion. It doesn't seem as funny now but it was hilarious when my skin started to lather up from what I thought was lotion. It didn't smell quite right either. Anyway, I used it for its intended use as the time went on and went back to the store to seek again the magical lotion I sought.
Dave - Your pictures of your orientiation staff are too cool. It's so typical that you'd be messing around with them as usual. You need to send some message back to the new residents of the grad pad. There is a new group forming and Kevin/Sarah are the only ones to carry on the tradition. Someone needs to let Liz and Dominique know what it's all about!
On professional topics, have you seen the new ranking that identifies as one of the new "Ivys?" What a great distinction and well deserved from this consumer's perspective. I'm sure you will be basking in the glory and helping to create even better experiences for the students in Doha.
Just doing a little public "check-in." Hope you are great and getting even better!

I left out a key work in the last paragraph. Have you seen the new ranking that identifies Carnegie Mellon() as one of the "new Ivys?"

Hi Dave! I hope you are doing well. I am enjoying the blog as I am a fellow blogger myself. I heard somewhere that Kroger is the second largest grocery store chain in the US - perhaps it's really the world and thus your reason for never escaping it! Love the K-Rog. Can't wait to hear more about your work/adventures.
